In October 2015, the Independent Schools Inspectorate conducted a full inspection of Packwood and reported on the school’s excellent educational and pastoral provision across the board. A particular focus on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) drew great praise for Packwood Acorns – please click here to see a summary of the outstanding ISI report.
Acorns is the pre-prep department of Packwood Haugh. Set in its own accommodation on the main school site, Acorns gives the children the best of both worlds. They are taught in their own classrooms, where small class sizes allow for personalised learning, and have their own outdoor area while also benefitting from access to all of Packwood’s outstanding facilities, including the AstroTurf pitches and indoor heated swimming pool. They regularly use the main school’s sports hall and theatre and a wooded area of the school’s beautiful 65-acre grounds is set aside for Acorns' Forest School.
Acorns is divided into three classes: Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 and the class teachers are supported by three Teaching Assistants. The Acorns staff teach the core curriculum which focuses on literacy and numeracy and also includes Science, History, Geography, RS, Drama, Art and Craft. Other lessons including Modern Foreign Languages (Italian, Spanish and French), IT, Music, PE and Swimming are taught by staff from the main school.
The children enjoy a happy, stimulating and fun environment where they learn through a combination of class teaching and group work. We place particular emphasis on the individual needs of each child.
To further enrich the children’s learning experience, outings, educational trips and visitors to school are arranged in conjunction with the termly topic work. In addition, there is a wide range of After-school clubs which run every afternoon.
