Play in a Day

26th January, 2012

Children in 3W and 3P had the chance to showcase their considerable thespian talents last Tuesday when Mark Hayes from Konflux Theatre in Education came to Packwood for the day.

A regular visitor to school over the years, Mark works with the children to produce a play in a day – or in fact, effectively half a day, as their afternoon performance to the whole school is preceded by only three and a half hours rehearsal time. It is amazing what they are able to achieve in such a short time and on this occasion they excelled themselves. Ever-ambitious, Mark set the challenge of putting on an abridged version of Romeo and Juliet and his cast rose to the challenge brilliantly. They mastered their lines, stage positioning, entrances and exits perfectly so that the performance flowed seamlessly. The children managed to convey the excitement and tragedy of the play in their lively, confident performance and all had clearly enjoyed the experience of working together to bring the story to life.

There is some real talent among these young actors and we look forward to seeing them return to the stage later in the term with the One Act Plays they are working on with their English teachers and also in the school production of Cinderella - the Truth.
