Under 11 football success
7th October, 2011
Packwood’s Under 11 football team have shown again what a talented group of players they are by winning the recent Wrekin College Tournament. The boys are enjoying an excellent season and used all their skill and tenacity to come out on top at Wrekin.
They qualified for the knockout stages following victories against St Winefride’s, Beech Hall and Prestfelde (but losing to Old Hall 1-0) and then met the tournament favourites, Newcastle, in the semi-final. The team played the best football of the season and won convincingly (3-0) to advance to the final against Old Hall who had beaten Arnold Lodge. Following a tremendous early strike from Daniel Humes, Old Hall equalised and forced extra time. The opposition went ahead and then Daniel managed to score a ‘wonder goal’ from inside his own half. The excitement wasn't over and with seconds to go Oscar Holt cleared off the goal line saving his team from defeat. And so the game went to penalties. The Packwood players scored all their place kicks and then Alex Ainslie managed to save (some people would say stand in the way of) the Old Hall's final penalty. Euphoric scenes completed an excellent day.
Special mention also to our B team who stepped in at the last minute and missed out on a place in the Plate Final by just one goal on goal difference.
