Cross country runners off to a flying start

26th September, 2011

On Sunday 18th September, the Packwood Under 13 cross country team took part in the first round of the Shropshire Young Athletes Cross Country League at Adams’ Grammar School in Newport.

Our four runners, Freddie F, Jonty S, Simon W and Jack A, were looking forward to making a good start to the season dressed in their new kit, and they did indeed!

Racing conditions were good though the course was very dry and hard, and the wood section quite technical. They had to run two laps, 3000m in total.

Freddie led the way from beginning to end and finished in 11min10s, a very good time for the beginning of the season. Jonty finished 8th, Simon 9th and Jack 17th.

The team’s excellent results have taken Packwood straight to the top of the league after the first event. However we have only a tiny two point advantage over Telford Athletics Club so there is still a long way to go and the pressure is on.

Our next event is 16th October at Oswestry School – fingers crossed for another successful day.
