New in the playgound

9th September, 2011

Break is naturally one of the most popular times of the school day and up until recently this has largely meant playing on the space net and adventure playground or taking part in some sort of ball game, but this term there is something new in the yard at Packwood and pupils are enjoying learning some traditional playground games.

Strange, colourful markings appeared over the summer holidays which have tested the memories of members of staff thinking back to playtime “in the old days” and, being unfamiliar to many of the children, have prompted some imaginative new ideas for how to use them. Hopscotch and skipping games are making a strong comeback and are popular with girls and boys alike. However it is definitely the girls who shine when it comes to hula hoops and French elastics!

Of course all these new activities haven’t entirely diverted the children from perhaps the most popular pastime of the early autumn term – gathering conkers. The Packwood Knock-out Conker Tournament will soon be underway and a new champion will be crowned later in the term.
