Old Swinford Hospital Festival

22nd June, 2011

On Thursday 16th June 3Class enjoyed a day off school to attend the Old Swinford Hospital School Summer Festival accompanied by Mr Herzog and Mrs Boutwood.

One group took part in the music activity, one in drama and two teams entered the science challenge. The musicians spent the morning working on a composition using some very exciting computer programmes to create ‘haunted’ effects. They then became an orchestra: they were given parts for their own instruments for some jazz and Beatles songs, which they spent the afternoon practising, helped by the 6th form students, to culminate in a very lively and enjoyable performance at the end of the day.

In the meantime, the drama group worked on short plays about bullying with some excellent acting and movement, interspersed with some team-building activities. Some very impressive short sketches also formed part of the end-of-day performance.

The science challenge involved a range of activities including a chemistry demonstration with bangs and flashes, building bridges, studying cells and a quiz. Packwood’s team of Oliver Bureau, Jude Bedford, Jamie Channon and Dominic Ainslie won the challenge and were presented with a magnificent trophy.

This was a brilliantly organized event with a superb range of activities which the children all hugely enjoyed.
