Packwood Dog Show

13th June, 2011

Sunday 5th June saw the return of our biennial Dog Show – although, as show organiser, Mr Jones, writes “that term perhaps does not really do justice to the event. The Packwood version is all about having a good time and getting families and their mutts together for a day of entertainment and socialising. Our show is unlikely to come under the jurisdiction of the Kennel Club anytime soon!”

Classes included Dog with the Waggiest Tail, won by Tatty (owned by Oliver Bureau), Dog Most Like Its Owner – Tilly (Theo Blythe), Best Dressed Dog – Tiffin (Katie Peel) and Greatest Glutton – Betty (Freddie Beharrell). More rigorous tests came in the form of the Obstacle Course which was also won by Betty, the Most Obedient Dog and the Fastest Retrieve events which were both won by Bracken (Mrs Houlker) and the Grand Mass Dog Race which rounded off the afternoon’s proceedings in raucous style and which was won by Digby (Mr Schofield).

Mr Jones continues, “About fifty families in all came along, fortunately undeterred by the drizzly weather. I can safely say that the principal aim of having fun was duly achieved and a pawky (pun intended) sum of £536 was raised as well. This money is being put towards creating an outdoor “peaceful place” for children to sit quietly and read, juggle their hamsters, chat or whatever.

My sincerest thanks must go to all the Packwood staff, most especially Mrs Jones, who willingly gave up their time to help out, and of course to the families with their hounds who turned up on the day.”
