Parent pupil golf and tennis
10th May, 2011
On Sunday 8th May, the annual Packwood parent/pupil golf and tennis competitions were held. The weather forecast said that conditions would be changeable and so it proved. The competitions started off in glorious sunshine but heavy showers eventually forced the tennis players in to the Sports Hall while many of the hardy golfers carried on regardless.
Mr Nogues reports that the tennis was of a highly impressive standard with some very close matches and some incredible shots. In the end the Cup, which was won last year by Ned Hall and his Mum, was won again by the Halls but this time it was Jonty who partnered Mum to victory. Well done to both of them and to all of the other competitors who will still have their work cut out next year as with the youngest Hall brother, Ollie, yet to take part few would bet against the family achieving the treble!
Mr Rigby organised the golf competition and reports that there were a few early nerves from some but everyone soon settled in to their game and began to enjoy themselves. The clouds however started to darken and the heavens opened. Some put up their brollies or sheltered under a pavilion, whilst others braved the elements and carried on with their game. The downpour didn’t last long, and most finished their round with the sun on their backs once again.
Tea was taken in the theatre foyer, and the cards were handed in. After careful inspection, it was clear that there was a new champion. Everyone seemed pleased with their efforts and all the competitors were awarded a prize, ranging from a few golf balls to a putting machine. The winners this year were Charlie Jackson and his father Nick, who were very happy recipients of the Draper Bowl. Well done to Charlie, and to all the other competitors.
