Ellie goes from strength to strength

3rd May, 2011

Talented Packwood athlete Ellie Hutchings had an exciting and busy Easter holiday during which she travelled to London to compete in the finals of the National Schools Biathlon.

With over 500 children entering the competition, Ellie had to battle through regional qualifiers and a semi-final to win her place in the finals. Ultimately she finished a very creditable 41st and enjoyed a fantastic experience competing at the renowned Crystal Palace stadium.

Ellie was back in Shropshire in time to take part in the Shrewsbury Swimming Meet on 2nd April where she competed in 10 events and came away with no fewer than 10 medals!

There were Golds in the 400m freestyle, 200m backstroke, 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle, Silvers in the 200m breaststroke, 200m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke and Bronze medals in the 400m individual medley and 200m individual medley.

All of these impressive results meant that 10 year old Ellie finished as the top ranked girl in her age category and 2nd ranked girl across all the age groups – a fantastic achievement accomplished through dedication, commitment and no small measure of natural talent. Well done Ellie!
