Acorns new playground

18th March, 2011

The children in Packwood Acorns are enjoying break time even more this term since the installation of some fantastic new play equipment.

The sturdy wooden structure features slides, monkey bars, a wobbly bridge, swings and a playhouse. There is also a climbing ramp with special hand and foot holds, climbing bars and a chain ‘scramble net’ as well as rubber tyres for clambering over and jumping through.

In addition, the adventure playground now boasts a dipping pond which the children themselves helped to dig and plant around during their recent Science Week.

A show of hands among the children showed that the big slide with the bump at the bottom is a particular favourite, as are the monkey bars – Bobby has mastered them, Lucy can go backwards on them, Genevieve sits on top of them and Zennor said “I like going across the monkey bars because I am so tall I can reach the floor and cheat!”

All of the Acorns are very proud of their pond which will soon be stocked with frogspawn and teeming with insect life and other tiny creatures and will become a source of fascination for all - especially Sophie, who said “I want to see the things living in the pond up close.”

Head of Packwood Acorns, Elizabeth Crawley, said “The exciting new equipment and pond are wonderful additions to the Acorns’ outdoor play area. Letting off steam and getting some fresh air has never been more fun!”
