Cross country runners at Nationals
6th March, 2011
On Sunday 6th March, Packwood’s Under 11 and Under 13 boys’ teams made their way to Malvern College to take part in the National Prep School Cross Country Championship.
The weather was chilly in the morning but the sun made an appearance just before our first team started. The course was a bit muddy but the conditions were perfect for racing. The competition was fierce as forty prep school teams were on the starting line for the Under 11 boys’ race. Most of our runners had played a rugby sevens tournament the day before but despite heavy legs they all performed well. Daniel Humes deserves a special mention – he finished 47th out of 230 in very good time.
The Under 13 boys had to run two miles in muddier conditions as they were the last to go. Twenty five schools were taking part in this race and once again our boys did well overall. Jonty Schofield finished 39th followed very closely by Simon Waterhouse who was 46th out of 150.
It was a good day for all. The boys enjoyed the challenge and can be proud of their achievements in the highly competitive races.
