The pride of Packwood
5th July, 2010
On Saturday 3rd July over 300 people gathered for a party at Packwood to mark the retirement of three long-serving members of staff. Described by the Chairman of Governors, Josh Dixey, as 'these three lions of Packwood', Howard Bourne, Peter Erskine and Ian Wood have between them been at the school for a total of 67 years.
Guests included many former colleagues and pupils of the three as well as current members of staff, governors and friends. There was much reminiscing and moving tributes were paid in gratitude for everything they have done for Packwood over the years. Their dedication, professionalism and commitment have been fundamental to the continuing success of the school, which is celebrating a record-breaking year of achievement in all spheres of the curriculum. They will be much missed and fondly remembered.
The occasion also provided an opportunity to honour Captain Keith Hindle, the former Bursar of Packwood and a very highly regarded friend and colleague. Captain Hindle died at the beginning of the year after a short illness, sadly less than two years into what promised to be a happy and active retirement. He had selflessly extended his career at the school in order to see through the completion of the magnificent new sports hall, Art and CDT complex. It was therefore decided to name the building in his memory, and a plaque was unveiled by his wife to dedicate The Hindle Building at the celebration on Saturday evening.
