Racing to the Nationals

30th June, 2010

Gifted Packwood athletes, Freddie Fielding and Charlotte Edwards, have both qualified for the National Preparatory School Championships at the Alexandra Stadium in Birmingham on Monday 5th July.

The pair competed in the Midlands regional qualifier on 24th June at Radley College in Oxfordshire. Freddie, who at only 11 years old is already ranked seventh in the country for the Under 13 age group, entered the Under 12 Boys 1500m. He qualified for the Nationals by winning the race, and in the process achieved a personal best time of 4 minutes, 57 seconds.

Following in the (very fast) footsteps of her older sister Louenna who six years ago while a pupil at Packwood became National Prep School Champion at the 100m and 200m, Charlotte competed in both those events last week. She narrowly missing qualification in the 200m by finishing third (only the first two from each event qualify) but she ran a fantastic 100m and won the race giving her the opportunity to emulate her sister’s achievement at that distance.

We wish both Freddie and Charlotte the very best of luck for 5th July!
