Acorns Sports Day
17th June, 2010
Inside or outside? That was the question facing us at 8.15 on Thursday 9th June after a stormy Wednesday and with grey skies lowering. In true Packwood spirit (remember the May Fair? and the school photo?) we chose the outdoors option and in spite of a chilly breeze all the events went ahead. The grass was dry enough to sprint on; our helpers from 1Class managed to put all the items for the conveyor belt race in the correct places; and the sand in the long jump pit had drained enough to prevent the athletes ending up looking like fish fingers by the time they'd had their three jumps.
The children were brilliantly prepared by Kate Parry for all the events which showed off not only their ability to run, throw and jump, but also their developing sportsmanship. No fed-up faces if they didn’t come first; no upset if they tripped or missed; and enthusiastic applause for their friends in their heats.
We finished with a grand relay - a feat of organisation and concentration as much as running - and everyone had medals. Thanks go to all who helped prepare, those who ensured everything ran smoothly on the day and the parents, friends and relations who stood in the typical June weather watching, applauding and cheering.
