Under 10 rugby success

19th March, 2010

On Wednesday 17th March the Under 10 rugby team took part in the Shrewsbury Tournament, defending the title Packwood won last year.

This year the tournament was run under a new format as a round robin, meaning the Packwood boys played against teams from each of the six other schools competing. And how well they played!

They got off to a great start and worked well together to earn good wins against Birchfield, Foremarke and Shrewsbury High Prep. Their fourth game against a really determined, hard-working Winchester House was a tough challenge but to their credit the boys battled on and finally emerged as 5-0 victors. After fighting off keen and spirited opposition from Prestfelde, Packwood came up against The Ryleys who were also undefeated at this stage of the tournament.

Despite losing to injury Sam Bayliss, who had performed so well throughout the afternoon, the boys rallied themselves for their final match and upped their game. Scott Walker and Jude Bedford were monumental and player of the tournament, Robert Ford (closely followed by Nick Yeoward) were mighty. To play so well for so long and to be so determined not to lose was a fine achievement and the boys were worthy winners of the tournament.
