Under 13 Lacrosse Tour

5th October, 2009

On Friday 2nd October the Packwood Under 13 Lacrosse team set off for Gloucestershire on a two-day tour. The girls played opponents at Westonbirt School, near Tetbury on Friday and then, after a night in Stroud, travelled to Cheltenham Ladies' College for a final match on Saturday 3rd.

The tour was a great success with the team winning all three of their matches in impressive style. Packwood lacrosse coach, Sue Draper, describes the games:

"Our first opponents, Westonbirt Under 14 squad, had a significant height advantage and a resolute defence but our determination and confidence grew as the game progressed and the scores were even at half time. Two early goals from Packwood in the second half eased the pressure and, although Westonbirt pulled one goal back in the last minute, we held on for a very pleasing 5-4 win.

We were scheduled to play Redcombe College next but, due to transport difficulties, the team didn’t arrive so our second match was against a mix of the Westonbirt Under 13 and Under 14 squads. Our play was more established by now and our passing, especially around the goal area, was much more accurate helping us to a 9-1 win.

Our match at Cheltenham followed on Saturday afternoon. From the first minute of play it was obvious that Packwood was the stronger team but, try as we did to score, nearly all the shots were saved in the first quarter. So we worked on placing the ball, increasing the power and making better use of the space in front of the goal. A good result in the end – a win, 8-0!"
