Library

Packwood has two fiction libraries (Senior and Junior) as well as an extensive selection of reference books which are used alongside ICT resources for research and independent study.

Reading for pleasure is encouraged and supported throughout the school and pupils use the libraries on a daily basis. While Kindles and e-readers are becoming more and more popular, there is still so much to be gained from a traditional library where pupils can browse the shelves and discover the delights of the very best of children’s literature. Stock is continually renewed and updated and there is a huge variety of choice to suit all abilities ranging from classics and old favourites to the most recent releases. Children’s newspaper First News, topical magazine The Week Junior and the Beano comic are also available for pupils to enjoy.

The libraries are open daily during morning break and are staffed by school librarians from Year 8. Pupils may borrow two books at any one time for a period of two weeks, but loans can be renewed if necessary.

Author visits are a regular feature of the library calendar and other events include two annual Scholastic Book Fairs offering pupils the chance to buy books of their own.
